Search
Engine Optimization: An Hour a Day by Jennifer Grappone and Gradiva Couzin
is written for anyone who has a web site and has yet to embark on the time-consuming
process of optimizing the site for search engines. Both authors are experienced
SEOs, and the book reflects the systematic approach they've developed whenever
working with a new client.
Refreshingly, this approach focuses
not only on technical tactics, but also on the reasons why SEO is important
beyond just achieving high rankings in search engine results—things like
business goals, creating appealing marketing messages and designing human-usable
web sites. |

The eleventh edition of the Search
Pulse has now been archived. We were able to discuss in detail about half
of the topics I wanted. This week, we had on Eric Ward to discuss
one of the most discussed topics of the week, a Google blog post on link
building. We also talked about duplicate content, CSS to hide content,
AdSense no longer allowing images near ads, the Yahoo Directory Tag, Panama
information and much more. Also, Chris Boggs had a nice rendition of the
"Hello Panama Song," see lyrics below. The topics we covered are listed
below, in order of priority (based on search community buzz). You can download
the MP3 file here and listen at your convenience. |

In Danny

Land, Danny wrote...
“Information

on June 9, 1997. It rapidly drew more attention and traffic, in no small
part due to Eric Ward's fantastic
way of getting news around.” |

In an article
titled "Make
Links Work for You—Carefully", By Brian Quinton " in Multichannel
Merchant, Brian writes...
“To some SEOs
and Webmasters, there is no “wrong” way, of course; whatever brings people
to your site and visibility to your page is worth trying. But search marketing
consultant Eric Ward doesn’t agree. Ward specializes in consulting
on link-building and link campaigns, and he says the pursuit of a quick
ranking or traffic hit comes with the risk of a long, slow, painful penalty
from the search engines if you get caught.” |
